For changing the face of the Internet, the prize has to go to Matt Mullenweg. Millions of websites run on this open source blogging platform which has become synonymous with blogging. Some of the most visited (and influential) sites online are WordPress sites, including HuffingtonPost.com, Mashable.com, and TechCrunch.com – so the guy who made it all possible must be influential!
Matt used to do consulting and go to school in Houston, and then he moved to San Francisco where he worked at CNET Networks. He left in late 2005 to found a company called Automattic, which is the secret force behind WordPress.com, Akismet, Gravatar, VaultPress, IntenseDebate, Polldaddy, and more. Automattic’s sites reach over half a billion people every month, making it one of the largest sites with the smallest team in the world.
